Form 4 & Form 3 Transfers

Form 4 transfers to individuals and trusts, and tax-exempt Form 3 dealer-to-dealer (SOT) transfers. Have an NFA item at another dealer? We can receive it.

How an NFA Purchase Works

  1. Choose your item in the shop or ask us to special-order or build it.
  2. Decide how to own it — as an individual or through a trust or other legal entity (see below).
  3. Paperwork. We prepare ATF Form 4 through ATF eForms when it is required or when you want the item registered, and help with fingerprints, photos, and CLEO notification.
  4. Background check & pickup. You complete ATF Form 4473 and a background check, then pick up by appointment once all federal and state requirements are met.

Individual vs. Trust

Individual: simplest and usually fastest — only you can possess the item. Trust / entity: lets multiple named responsible persons possess it and can simplify estate planning, but each responsible person submits fingerprints and photos. We don't give legal advice — talk to an attorney about setting up a trust.

ATF eForms Tips

Electronic filing at eforms.atf.gov is much faster than paper. Have a passport-style photo, fingerprint cards (FD-258), and your trust documents ready. We'll file the dealer side and send you what to sign.

Current Wait Times

Typical approval we're seeing: [X–X days individual / X–X days trust]. ATF posts official averages on its Current Processing Times page.

NFA compliance notice: NFA items are transferred only in compliance with current federal NFA rules and Texas or other applicable state law. Federal requirements changed in 2026: the NFA transfer tax on suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs dropped to $0 on January 1, 2026, and ATF announced on October 9, 2026 that it would no longer require approval or registration for those items (filing a Form 4 is still accepted voluntarily). Machine guns and destructive devices still require an approved ATF Form 4 and the $200 tax stamp. A Form 4473 and background check are always required, and some states still require federal registration. Rules may keep changing — we'll confirm the current requirements with you before any transfer. [Confirm your store policy, e.g. "we file a Form 4 on every NFA transfer"] This is general information, not legal advice.

FFL Transfer Process

How a Transfer Works

  1. Buy from any online seller. Choose C 2 Provisions as your receiving FFL. Ask the seller to email us for our FFL copy, or contact us.
  2. Ship to us. We'll send the seller a copy of our FFL, which includes our licensed shipping address. Please don't ship without contacting us first.
  3. We notify you. When it arrives, we log it into our records and contact you to schedule pickup.
  4. Complete the paperwork. Bring a valid government photo ID. You'll complete ATF Form 4473 and we run the NICS background check.
  5. Take it home. Once approved (and after any state waiting period), the firearm is yours.
